Frequently Asked Questions

How does pitch detection work?

Guitar Scale Quest uses your iPhone's built-in microphone to analyze the sound of your guitar in real time. Simply play a note and the app will detect the pitch and highlight it on the fretboard. For best results, play in a quiet environment and hold your phone close to your guitar.

Which scale types are available?

Guitar Scale Quest includes major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor, major pentatonic, minor pentatonic, blues, and various modes (Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian). We regularly add new scales with updates.

Does it work with acoustic and electric guitars?

Yes! Guitar Scale Quest works with both acoustic and electric guitars. For electric guitars, you can play unplugged or at low volume near the microphone. The pitch detection algorithm is optimized for guitar frequencies.

Why isn't the app detecting my notes correctly?

Make sure your guitar is in tune, play in a quiet room, and hold your iPhone within arm's reach of your guitar. Background noise, other instruments, or playing too softly can affect detection accuracy. Also check that microphone access is enabled in Settings > Guitar Scale Quest.

Can I change the tuning?

Guitar Scale Quest currently supports standard tuning (EADGBE). Support for alternate tunings is planned for a future update.

Which languages are supported?

Guitar Scale Quest is available in French and English. The app language follows your iPhone's language settings automatically.
